Wonderful is a fruiting pomegranate valued for its large, dark-red fruit and vivid red flowers. It grows as a large shrub or small tree, with glossy green leaves and a rounded, bushy outline in a warm, sunny garden.
## Fruit and siting
The [Arbor Day Foundation cultivar profile](https://shop.arborday.org/nursery/wonderful) lists mature size at 8–12 feet high and 6–8 feet wide, and USDA zones 7–10. [T-Y Nursery](https://www.tynursery.com/plant-library/item/punica-granatum-wonderful/) also lists zones 8–10 and notes that plants can grow larger in favorable conditions. [RHS](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/150323/punica-granatum-wonderful-f/details) describes the cultivar’s red flowers and edible dark-red fruit. Pomegranates need full sun and well-drained soil; fruit production and cold response vary with climate.
## Maintenance
Water consistently through establishment and during dry weather while fruit is developing. Once established, the plant can tolerate some drought, but prolonged dryness may reduce the harvest. Prune lightly to remove dead or crossing growth and maintain a sturdy, open framework. Protect young plants during unusually cold spells, and gather ripe fruit before frost or splitting affects quality.
