Create design onlineAbout Purple Satin Rose of Sharon
Purple Satin® is Hibiscus syriacus 'ILVOPS', a sterile selection with abundant single dark-purple flowers and a red-purple eye ([Proven Winners profile](https://www.provenwinnerscolorchoice.com/plant/purple-satin-rose-of-sharon/), [Canadian ILVOPS cultivar record](https://active.inspection.gc.ca/english/plaveg/pbrpov/cropreport/ross/app00010292e.shtml)). It blooms in summer, is hardy in USDA zones 5–9, prefers full sun, and grows 8–12 feet tall by 6–10 feet wide.
## Garden Use
Use it in a foundation planting, border, hedge, or specimen position where the strong purple flower color can be seen. The flowers do not produce seeds, reducing unwanted seedlings around the planting.
## Growing Conditions
Plant in moist, well-drained soil and avoid persistently saturated ground. Clay and alkaline soils are tolerated. Water while establishing and during prolonged dry periods; the upright to semi-upright habit keeps a clear shrub outline.
## Seasonal Interest
Heavy summer bloom consists of large single flowers with a red-purple center eye against green foliage.
## Maintenance
Regular pruning is unnecessary; shape in early spring if desired.
