About Aristocrat Flowering Pear

'Aristocrat' is a Callery pear selection with a pyramidal to broad-pyramidal crown, glossy leaves and white spring flowers. Its relatively open branching and purple-red autumn foliage distinguish it from denser forms, while its eventual crown needs room in the landscape. [University of Illinois Extension](https://woodyplants.nres.uiuc.edu/plant/pyrcaar) provides selection-specific form and size information, and [Oregon State University](https://landscapeplants.oregonstate.edu/plants/pyrus-calleryana) describes its growth and fall color. ## Landscape use Use as a flowering shade or specimen tree where a broad crown can develop. Illinois lists an approximate mature size of 40 feet tall by 20 feet wide and USDA hardiness zone 5a. The selection's less formal branching has been described as more resistant to ice damage than 'Bradford', but it is more susceptible to fire blight than some other Callery cultivars. ## Seasonal interest White flowers appear in spring. Glossy dark-green leaves provide summer cover and turn purple-red in autumn. Callery pears can contribute to cross-pollination that produces volunteer seedlings in some regions; check local guidance before planting. ## Maintenance Choose a site with adequate overhead and lateral clearance. Water while the tree establishes, then monitor during extended dry periods. Inspect the crown periodically and prune selectively to remove dead, damaged or crossing branches; avoid severe topping.
