Create design onlineAbout Capital Flowering Pear
Capital flowering pear is a deciduous tree with a strongly upright, narrow columnar crown. Glossy green leaves turn red-purple to bronze in fall, and white flowers open in spring. The University of Connecticut describes ‘Capital’ as a fastigiate cultivar reaching about 35 feet tall and 10 feet wide, while Oregon State University also notes its narrow crown and fall color.
## Garden Use
Its narrow outline can fit a planting strip or smaller yard where a broad canopy would crowd nearby space, but it still needs adequate rooting room and clearance from overhead wires. Leave enough space for the crown to mature rather than pruning it into a restricted shape.
## Maintenance
Plant in full sun and water while the tree establishes. Monitor for fire blight: UConn reports strong susceptibility for this cultivar, while Oregon State lists resistance, so avoid relying on resistance alone. Remove affected branches with clean tools and follow local tree-care guidance.
