About Jack® Flowering Pear

Jack® is a compact flowering selection of Callery pear with a dense, upright oval crown suited to smaller sites. Clusters of white flowers open in spring before glossy green foliage, which can turn yellow in fall. [J Frank Schmidt & Son](https://jfschmidt.com/all-trees/trees/jack-pear/) describes the cultivar’s compact form and 16-foot mature height; [Cornell’s Woody Plants Database](https://woodyplants.cals.cornell.edu/cultivar/11777) records the alternate name Jaczam and a larger mature estimate, so allow for variation among sources and growing conditions. ## Seasonal Interest The white spring bloom is followed by a leafy canopy through summer and yellow autumn color. Its upright outline makes it useful where a broad, spreading crown would be difficult to accommodate. ## Placement Choose a sunny site with room for the crown to broaden as it matures. Keep the tree clear of overhead lines and buildings, and consider its eventual size rather than the compact nursery form. ## Maintenance Water during establishment and through prolonged dry periods. Inspect branch structure while young and prune selectively to maintain a strong, balanced framework.
