Moonglow is a European pear with abundant, early-season fruit that ripens ahead of Bartlett. Its Bartlett-shaped pears have yellow skin flushed with red and soft, moderately juicy flesh.
## Bloom and pollination
Fragrant white flowers bloom in early spring. Moonglow needs another compatible pear for pollination and can also serve as a pollenizer for other pears; choose cultivars whose bloom overlaps in the local climate. The fruit is suitable for fresh use, cooking, or drying.
## Growing conditions
Grow in full sun and deep, fertile, moist but well-drained soil. Avoid strongly acidic ground and sites shaded for more than half the day. Rootstock controls tree size: standard-rootstock trees may reach about 20 feet, while dwarfing rootstocks are commonly used for smaller plantings. The cultivar is listed for USDA zones 5–8.

## Maintenance
Prune during dormancy to maintain a strong framework, and thin developing fruit where clusters are crowded. Water regularly while the tree establishes and during dry periods, allowing soil drainage between waterings.
