Willow-leaf pear ‘Pendula’ is a deciduous ornamental pear with narrow gray-green foliage and slender, cascading branches. Creamy-white flowers open in spring, followed by small brown fruit that is ornamental rather than a crop for eating.
## Garden use
Plant it where the drooping outline can be seen from several angles and where the crown has room to spread. Use it as a focal tree or to soften a boundary; avoid placing low branches across paths or driveways. Oregon State lists the selection as hardy to USDA Zone 4 ([Oregon State profile](https://landscapeplants.oregonstate.edu/plants/pyrus-salicifolia-pendula)). Mature-size reports vary: the [RHS profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/91185/pyrus-salicifolia-pendula/details) gives 8–12 m in height and a spread wider than 8 m, while the [South Australian plant selector](https://plantselector.botanicgardens.sa.gov.au/Plants/Details/1054) lists 4–7 m tall and 4–6 m wide. Check the expected size for your region before choosing a site.
## Seasonal character
The fine, willow-like leaves create a soft texture through the growing season, and spring flowers add a light display. Small brown fruits may remain as ornamental detail. The shape and foliage are useful when a garden needs a specimen tree with a relaxed, pendulous habit.
## Maintenance
Give the tree full sun and water regularly while it establishes. Allow its natural branches to retain their weeping shape; remove damaged or crossing growth as needed, and keep the broad crown clear of nearby structures.
