About Gambel Scrub Oak

A native "scrub oak" of much of the west and parts of Mexico, it is found on much of the bench area along the Wasatch front in Utah. Shiny dark green leaves are broad, deeply lobed on each side of the central vein. Capped acorns appear in summer, turning to green and then golden brown as they mature. Reproduction can occur from the acorns but also spreads rapidly from root sprouts underground. Well adapted to both wet spring areas as well as dry hillsides. Grow much faster with irrigation.
