About Persian Buttercup

Persian buttercup is a tuberous herbaceous perennial with deeply lobed leaves and branched flower stems. Its single, cup-shaped flowers may be red, pink, yellow, or white and usually open in late spring or early summer; the Royal Horticultural Society also lists garden ranunculus as a common name. See the [RHS profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/14341/ranunculus-asiaticus/details) and [Kew taxonomic record](https://powo.science.kew.org/taxon/urn:lsid:ipni.org:names:712245-1). ## Growing conditions Choose a sheltered, sunny position and well-drained soil; the RHS lists loam and sand among suitable soil types. This species is often grown in containers, where drainage and seasonal watering are easier to manage. Its published size varies by source and growing conditions, so allow room around the plant rather than treating one measurement as a hard limit. ## Seasonal care Ranunculus asiaticus needs a dry dormant period in summer. The RHS describes growing it under unheated glass with good light and ventilation, but local climate and winter conditions affect whether it is best treated as a garden perennial or protected container plant. ## Maintenance Keep soil draining freely and reduce watering during summer dormancy. Remove faded flowers and let foliage finish its seasonal cycle before lifting or storing any dormant plant.
