Red Rover® is the silky dogwood selection Cornus obliqua ‘Powell Gardens’, protected as USPP 27,873. [Proven Winners](https://c4.provenwinners.com/plants/cornus/red-rover-silky-dogwood-cornus-obliqua) and its originating nursery, [Spring Meadow](https://springmeadownursery.com/plantfinder/red-rover-18040), identify the same cultivar and describe a compact, deciduous shrub.
It bears white flowers, blue fruit, green leaves that turn purple and red in autumn, and burgundy winter stems. Both sources list 4–5 feet for height and spread; Proven Winners gives zones 4a–8b, while Spring Meadow gives zones 3–8, so the lower hardiness boundary varies by source. The shrub suits moist or damp sites, including rain gardens and bioswales, and tolerates drier conditions after establishment.
## Maintenance
Grow in full or partial sun. Keep soil moist to wet when practical, especially during establishment. Prune after flowering for shape; renew older stems in spring when winter stem color is a priority. Spring pruning can reduce that season’s flowering.
