Thai lady palm is the clustered, evergreen Rhapis subtilis, a tropical palm valued for its fan-shaped green leaves and restrained, clumping form. Singapore’s National Parks Board records it for semi-shade, moderate water, and indoor or container growing, with native distribution in Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia ([NParks](https://www.nparks.gov.sg/florafaunaweb/flora/7/2/7283)).
## Placement
Use it as a foliage specimen in a bright room, shaded patio, or warm protected garden. The species grows in tropical forest habitat and is not a cold-climate outdoor palm; keep it protected from chilling conditions. Its grouped stems and fan leaves bring a vertical, architectural accent to a container without requiring a sunny exposure.
## Growing Conditions
Provide filtered light or partial shade. Use a free-draining potting mix and water regularly so the root zone remains lightly moist; do not let the pot sit in standing water. The NParks profile identifies both moist and well-drained root zones as suitable. A container with drainage holes helps balance those needs.
## Maintenance
Check moisture more often in warm, dry rooms and during active growth. Wipe dust from the leaf surfaces and trim only damaged fronds at their base. Keep the plant in a stable position and repot only when its clump has filled the container; the palm is propagated by seed or division ([NParks](https://www.nparks.gov.sg/florafaunaweb/flora/7/2/7283)).
