Create design onlineAbout Norfolk Island Palm
Norfolk Island palm is the accepted name for *Rhopalostylis baueri*, a palm native to Norfolk Island and the Kermadec Islands. Kew describes it as a tree of wet tropical biomes; the species is best considered for warm, humid gardens where its local climate needs can be met.
## Growing Conditions
The [Kew species account](https://powo.science.kew.org/taxon/urn:lsid:ipni.org:names:60468338-2/general-information) recognizes *R. baueri* and records the native range. Kew lists Norfolk Island palm and Raoul Island palm as common names. The [Rhopalostylis genus account](https://powo.science.kew.org/taxon/31478-1) places it in Arecaceae and distinguishes it from the New Zealand nikau palm, *R. sapida*. The existing USDA zone minimum of 10 is preserved; no upper zone or numeric mature size is added from the broad ecological description. Confirm local cold exposure and shelter before planting.
## Maintenance
Provide a sheltered position with moisture-retentive, well-drained soil suited to a warm-climate palm. Water consistently during establishment and dry spells while allowing excess water to drain. Protect the crown and trunk from cold or drying conditions where local weather can stress tropical palms. Remove only dead or damaged fronds with clean tools, and retain healthy green foliage.
