About Golden Currant

Native to the western United States. Light green, rounded small maple-like glossy leaves turn yellow-orange-red in fall. Extremely fragrant racemes of yellow flowers in May turn to amber yellow to black edible berries. Mature fruits and mildly sweet and acidic and can be eaten raw but are usually cooked with sugar. Flowers are also edible.
