About Consort Black Currant

A lovely hedge plant that produces masses of medium sized black currants in mid-summer. Self-pollinating. The berries are high in antioxidants and phenolics with a strong flavor, making them less desirable for fresh eating but great for preserves, juices and cooking. Fairly resistant to pests and diseases, but allow good air circulation to prevent mildew. Prune in late winter once the threat of extreme cold has passed.
