About Rockapulco Purple Double Impatiens

Rockapulco® Purple is the double-flowered *Impatiens walleriana* selection 'Balfieprim', with layered magenta-purple blooms and a rosebud-like form. This warm-season annual brings color to part- or full-shade borders and containers, flowering from late spring through summer and into fall. Proven Winners lists the selection as 'Balfieprim' (USPP 18,867; Can 3,361), while the cultivar page documents its color, uses and mature range ([protected varieties list](https://www.provenwinners.com/sites/provenwinners.com/files/catalogs_pdfs/exhibit_a_-_variety_list_for_2022-23_-_final1_0.pdf); [Garden Crossings cultivar page](https://gardencrossings.com/products/rockapulco-purple-double-impatiens)). ## Landscape Use Use along a shaded border or as a container filler, with about 10–20 inches of height and a spread up to 24 inches. Its double purple flowers suit mixed containers, hanging baskets and mass plantings; leave room for the wider spread when placing multiple plants. ## Growing Conditions Place in part to full shade and keep the soil moist but well drained, with organic matter worked in. *I. walleriana* can wilt during hot, dry spells, so check moisture and water as needed; avoid overwatering, which can cause rot. [NC State Extension’s species guidance](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/impatiens-walleriana/) supports these general care practices. ## Maintenance This is a tender annual in climates with winter cold. Deadheading is not needed for Rockapulco® Purple. If foliage becomes leggy late in summer, trimming back the top third can refresh the plant and encourage new blooms. In containers, check soil moisture more often during warm weather.
