Canby is a vigorous, nearly thornless red raspberry with bright-red, medium-firm fruit and strong canes that carry a summer crop. It is a floricane-bearing cultivar: flowers open in spring on overwintered canes, then berries ripen in summer.
Oregon State lists Canby for roughly zones 4–7 and notes that it is susceptible to root rot, so drainage is especially important. The fruit can be eaten fresh or used for freezing and preserving. ## Maintenance
Choose a sunny site with well-drained soil and avoid low spots that stay wet. Maintain even moisture as flowers and berries develop, but do not let roots stand in water. A trellis or row wire can support vigorous canes and make the crop easier to reach. After the summer harvest, cut out spent floricanes and retain the new canes for the following year. Thin the row periodically and remove damaged growth to reduce crowding and improve airflow.
