About Caroline™ Everbearing Raspberry

Caroline is an everbearing red raspberry selected for large, flavorful fruit and a late-season harvest. Its upright canes carry white flowers in summer and fall, followed by red berries for fresh eating and preserving. ## Fruit and growth The berries are firm and full-flavored, with fall fruit continuing late in the season. McKay describes 4–5-foot upright canes and a 2–3-foot spread. The [McKay cultivar profile](https://www.mckaynursery.com/caroline-raspberry) identifies *Rubus idaeus* ‘Caroline’ PP10412, white flowers, red fruit and summer/fall bloom. The [US plant patent](https://patents.google.com/patent/USPP10412P/en) identifies the named selection and was issued in 1998. The [OSU raspberry guide](https://extension.oregonstate.edu/catalog/ec-1306-growing-raspberries-your-home-garden) includes Caroline among everbearing cultivars for zones 4–8. Gurney’s gives a broader 4–9 recommendation, so local winter exposure matters. ## Site and care Choose full sun for best fruiting; plants tolerate partial shade. A fertile, well-drained loam and steady moisture during fruit production support growth, while saturated soil encourages root problems. ## Maintenance For one fall crop, cut all canes to the ground in late winter before new growth starts. Leave canes to overwinter only when managing for an additional summer crop; remove spent floricanes after harvest.
