Cascade Gold is a yellow-fruited, summer-bearing raspberry developed for fresh-market fruit. Its large, glossy berries are firm and tart-sweet, and the cultivar produces its crop on second-year canes.
## Fruit and growth
A research report describes Cascade Gold as a floricane-fruiting *Rubus idaeus* cultivar jointly released by Washington State University, Oregon State University and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. It records large, firm, early-season fruit and notes that yield can vary, especially where root rot is present. See the [Cascade Gold release paper](https://s3.wp.wsu.edu/uploads/sites/1032/2015/10/Moore-et-al.-2014-%E2%80%98Cascade-Gold%E2%80%99-Raspberry.pdf). Oregon State lists zones 5–8; regional recommendations can differ with site and winter conditions.
## Site and care
Plant in full sun for best fruit quality; some partial shade is tolerated. Use fertile, well-drained soil and provide steady water during fruit development. Avoid sites that stay wet, because raspberry roots are vulnerable to rot. The [OSU home-garden guide](https://extension.oregonstate.edu/catalog/ec-1306-growing-raspberries-your-home-garden) explains site selection, irrigation and cane growth.
## Maintenance
After summer harvest, cut spent floricanes at ground level and keep healthy new canes for next year’s crop. Remove weak or excess canes and maintain an open row for airflow and picking.
