Create design onlineAbout Bushel and Berry® Raspberry Shortcake® Bush
Raspberry Shortcake® is the marketed name for the red raspberry selection ‘NR7’, a compact, thornless plant with a rounded habit. White spring flowers precede its edible summer berries, and the compact plant can grow in a patio container or in the landscape without staking.
## In the garden
This dense, mounded selection is listed at 2–3 feet tall for USDA Zones 4–9 and thrives in full sun. The patent describes mature trial plants commonly 500–600 mm tall, with average spread near one meter under standard practices; spacing and root suckers affect the footprint. [Bushel and Berry](https://www.bushelandberry.com/raspberry-shortcake) identifies the marketed selection, and the [US plant patent](https://patents.google.com/patent/USPP22141P2/en) documents the denomination ‘NR7’.
## Fruit
The red berries are medium-sized, firm, and easy to pick. Plant in well-drained soil; the brand's [planting guide](https://www.bushelandberry.com/raspberry-care) recommends a fairly neutral pH of 6.5–7.5 and notes that afternoon shade helps in regions with extreme heat. Water regularly through flowering and fruit production.
## Maintenance
Prune according to the summer-bearing raspberry cycle: remove canes that have fruited, while retaining healthy first-year canes for the next crop. Control suckers at the edge of a bed or container, and harvest ripe berries often.
