Create design onlineAbout Tulameen - Raspberry
Tulameen is a late-season red raspberry with upright, spine-free canes and a high yield of well-flavored berries over a long picking period. It is a floricane-fruiting cultivar, so the new canes grow one year and bear the next.
## In the garden
The [Royal Horticultural Society profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/129074/rubus-idaeus-tulameen-f/details) recommends full sun and moist but well-drained loam or sandy soil. It gives a mature height of 1.5–2.5 metres and spread of 0.1–0.5 metres, and describes a suckering habit. The Minnesota Department of Agriculture lists Tulameen among fruit cultivars with a minimum hardiness zone of 5. Raspberry cultivars vary by region; the [Oregon State University guide](https://extension.oregonstate.edu/catalog/ec-1306-growing-raspberries-your-home-garden) explains how season and local climate affect flowering and harvest.
## Fruit
Pick the red berries regularly as they ripen. Their long late-season crop is useful for fresh eating, and a well-drained site helps keep the perennial roots healthy.
## Maintenance
Train new canes between parallel wires or supports. After fruiting, cut spent floricanes to ground level in early to mid-autumn and tie in new growth for the following season. Remove unwanted suckers at the edge of the row and irrigate during dry weather.
