Hispaniola palmetto is a robust, solitary fan palm native to eastern Cuba and Hispaniola. Its upright trunk and broad crown create a strong tropical focal point, and mature trees can approach 40 feet in height.
### Form and placement
[Kew](https://powo.science.kew.org/taxon/urn:lsid:ipni.org:names:224806-2) accepts Sabal domingensis and records its native range in Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and Haiti. A South Florida grower’s [Hispaniola palm profile](https://dasignsourcebotanicals.com/plant/sabal-domingensis/) describes a nearly 40-foot palm with full-sun exposure, moderate water needs, and sandy soil tolerance. The [National Parks Board of Singapore](https://www.nparks.gov.sg/florafaunaweb/flora/9/0/9054) also lists full sun and moderate water.
### Growing conditions
Give this large palm open sky and space for its crown. Sandy ground is suitable, but keep the root zone moist without leaving it waterlogged, especially while the plant establishes.
## Maintenance
Water deeply after planting and repeat when soil a few inches below the surface begins to dry. Once established, supplemental irrigation is generally needed only during severe drought; remove fully dead leaves and leave partially discolored older fronds in place.
