About Safari Sky South African Phlox

Safari® Sky is a patented, compact Jamesbrittenia selected for sky-blue flowers with white centers and a low mounded habit. It behaves as a warm-season annual in most gardens, flowering from spring to frost and reaching 6–12 inches tall with a 12–24-inch spread ([Proven Winners plant profile](https://www.provenwinners.com/plants/jamesbrittenia/safari-sky-south-african-phlox-jamesbrittenia)). ## Seasonal Interest The blue-and-white blooms cover the plant through spring, summer, and fall in warm growing conditions. Its foliage forms a soft mound with stems trailing up to about 8 inches, making the selection useful as a container filler, basket spiller, or low border accent. The breeder describes Safari Jamesbrittenia as more tolerant of heat and humidity than bacopa and notes that flowers continue through summer. ## Growing Conditions Plant in part sun to full sun and give it well-drained soil. The official profile lists average water needs and USDA zones 10a–11b; elsewhere it is commonly grown as a seasonal annual. Allow space for the 12–24-inch spread rather than using the smaller 6–10-inch spacing figure as mature width. ## Maintenance Deadheading is unnecessary. Include a controlled-release fertilizer at planting, then feed containers periodically during a long season. If the mound becomes open or tired, trim up to one-third and follow with water-soluble fertilizer. The U.S. patent record identifies the selection as ‘INJAMSASKY’ and gives an issue date of April 5, 2022 ([plant patent](https://patents.justia.com/patent/PP34114)).
