Willows (Salix)

Salix, commonly known as willows, sallows, or osiers, is a diverse genus of deciduous trees and shrubs known for their rapid growth and affinity for moist environments. They typically feature lanceolate leaves and produce distinctive catkins in early spring. Their flexible branches have been used for centuries in basketry and weaving. While some species are prostrate alpines, most are upright forms that provide essential early-season nectar for pollinators and stabilize soil along riparian banks.
