Cathedral® Sky Blue is a compact, early-flowering mealycup sage with soft lavender-blue flower spikes held above aromatic green foliage. It brings a cool blue accent to sunny borders and containers, and the flowers provide nectar for visiting pollinators. [Green Fuse Botanicals](https://green-fuse.com/new/salvia-cathedral/green-fuse-salvia-cathedral-sky-blue-1/) identifies the exact selection; [NC State Extension](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/salvia-farinacea/) describes the species’ growing needs and long bloom season.
## Flowers and garden use
The light blue flowers carry a lavender cast and appear on an upright, well-branched plant. The series generally grows 12–18 inches tall and 12–16 inches wide. Use it among annuals in a border, in mixed containers, or as a cut flower. Flowers of mealycup sage attract bees, butterflies and hummingbirds.
## Growing conditions
Give it full sun and well-drained soil. The species tolerates dry clay but grows best in moist, well-drained ground. It can be grown as a perennial in suitable warm-winter areas and as an annual where winter conditions are colder. The [plant patent](https://patents.google.com/patent/USPP20929P2/en) records the formal selection name ‘Cathedral Sky Blue’ and its early flowering, compact, branching habit.
## Maintenance
Allow space for air movement and remove spent flower stems or leggy growth as needed. After a long flowering period, pruning can encourage denser foliage. Water during establishment and extended dry spells, especially in containers.
