Sallyfun™ Blue Ice is an upright mealycup sage selected for its early flowering and blue-violet flower spikes. Its long flowering display and pollinator-friendly flowers make it useful in sunny borders, containers and cut-flower plantings. [Danziger’s Blue Ice detail page](https://www.danzigeronline.com/catalog/annuals/sallyfun-blue-ice/) confirms the exact Sallyfun selection; [NC State Extension](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/salvia-farinacea/) describes the species’ care and wildlife value.
## Flowers and garden use
The upright flower spikes provide a vertical accent among annuals and work well in borders or pots. Plants generally grow 10–18 inches tall and 12–16 inches wide. Flowers of mealycup sage attract bees, butterflies and hummingbirds. The Sallyfun series is bred for uniform plants and flowering performance, while this selection’s blue-violet flowers pair readily with white, pink or silver-toned annuals.
## Growing conditions
Plant in full sun in well-drained soil. The species prefers moist ground but tolerates dry clay, and it grows in clay, loam or sandy soils. Mealycup sage is perennial in warmer regions and commonly grown as an annual where winters are colder. [NC State Extension](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/salvia-farinacea/) lists USDA zones 8–10 and a long season from spring until frost.
## Maintenance
Water during establishment and prolonged dry spells, especially in containers. Pruning after a long flowering period can encourage denser foliage and reduce legginess. Good air circulation helps keep the foliage healthy.
