Chinese magnolia vine is a deciduous, woody twining climber with glossy leaves and small cream-to-pale-pink flowers. Pollinated flowers can develop into hanging clusters of red or pink berries on female plants. [The Royal Horticultural Society](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/16803/schisandra-chinensis/details) describes its flowering season and cultivation needs.
## Growth and flowering
This vine flowers in late spring and early summer. It grows in full sun or partial shade and prefers fertile, moist but well-drained soil; plants in full sun need consistently moist soil. RHS lists chalk, clay, loam, and sand among suitable soil types. Plant both male and female plants when fruit is desired, and provide support for young shoots as they establish.
## Maintenance
Tie in young shoots until the plant is established. The RHS recommends pruning in early spring. Fruit formation depends on pollination and female plants, so do not expect berries from an unpollinated plant.
