About English Stonecrop

English stonecrop is a very low creeping succulent with tightly packed, cylindrical fleshy leaves and small white to pink-tinged star-shaped flowers. [Kew](https://powo.science.kew.org/taxon/urn:lsid:ipni.org:names:275052-1) accepts Sedum anglicum, native to parts of western Europe. The [Royal Horticultural Society](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/16931/sedum-anglicum/details) describes evergreen mats around 5 cm tall, flowering in summer. Grow in full sun and freely draining soil, with a neutral to alkaline reaction preferred in that garden guidance. It suits a sunny rockery, shallow stone crevice or container where its small scale is not overwhelmed. Avoid persistently wet roots and do not confuse the unqualified species with a named selection. The [San Luis Obispo County January 2014 plant list](https://www.slocounty.ca.gov/departments/planning-building/forms-documents/environmental-forms-and-documents/plants-information/county-approved-plant-list) explicitly names Sedum anglicum and assigns F2. F2 identifies its most fire-retardant plants for the 30–70-foot band from a structure. The category is source-specific and is not a guarantee against burning. The county requires suitable soil moisture, uncrowded planting, removal of dead material, separate planting groups and prevention of ground-to-canopy fuel connections.
