About Lesser Mexican Stonecrop

Lesser Mexican stonecrop is a small branched succulent with shiny green leaves in loose rosettes and clusters of yellow star-shaped flowers. [Kew](https://powo.science.kew.org/taxon/urn:lsid:ipni.org:names:275252-1) accepts Sedum confusum as a Mexican species, distinct from greater Mexican stonecrop, S. praealtum. The [Royal Horticultural Society](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/47991/sedum-confusum-hemsl/details) describes growth around 10–13 cm tall and 30 cm wide. In protected cultivation, it recommends a light, draining medium with added perlite and bright filtered light. Water during active growth and sparingly in winter. It can be moved outside in warm seasons where the climate suits it; protect from cold and persistently wet conditions. The [San Luis Obispo County January 2014 plant list](https://www.slocounty.ca.gov/departments/planning-building/forms-documents/environmental-forms-and-documents/plants-information/county-approved-plant-list) explicitly names Sedum confusum and assigns F2. F2 identifies its most fire-retardant plants for the 30–70-foot band from a structure. The category is source-specific and is not a guarantee against burning. The county requires suitable soil moisture, uncrowded planting, removal of dead material, separate planting groups and prevention of ground-to-canopy fuel connections.
