About Giant Weeping Sequoia

Sequoiadendron giganteum ‘Pendulum’ is a distinctive evergreen giant sequoia with an irregular, strongly weeping form. Its branches and leader wander rather than forming the species’ usual symmetrical outline, and the cultivar’s ultimate spread is difficult to predict. [The American Conifer Society profile](https://conifersociety.org/conifers/sequoiadendron-giganteum-pendulum/) describes the cultivar and its unusual growth. ## Form and landscape Each plant develops its own outline, with a meandering leader and pendulous branches. The Society reports a young-tree height of about 12 feet after ten years; that figure describes an early growth stage, not a mature-size limit. Provide room for the individual crown to develop. ## Foliage and placement The evergreen foliage is gray-green. Use the plant as a distinctive specimen where its irregular silhouette can be seen from several angles. The cultivar has been grown since the nineteenth century. ## Maintenance Allow the natural leader and branches to retain their weeping character. Because the final spread is unpredictable, inspect the planting area for adequate clearance as the tree matures.
