Create design onlineAbout Shadowland® 'Above the Clouds' Hosta
Shadowland® ‘Above the Clouds’ is a large hosta with cloudy blue, cupped leaves and a strongly puckered surface. Pale lavender flowers rise on taller scapes in midsummer. Its broad foliage mound can anchor a shaded border, mass planting, or roomy container.
## Foliage and flowers
The mature foliage reaches about 25 inches high and spreads 54–60 inches; flower scapes rise 30–38 inches above the plant. The [Walters Gardens profile](https://www.waltersgardens.com/variety.php?ID=HSATC) and [Proven Winners profile](https://www.provenwinners.com/plants/hosta/shadowland-above-clouds-hosta-hybrid) describe the same Shadowland selection and its cloudy blue foliage. Allow space for its wide spread rather than using the taller flower scapes as the foliage-height measurement.
## Growing conditions
Plant in part shade to full shade in moist, well-drained soil enriched with organic matter. Water consistently while the clump establishes. Walters Gardens lists USDA Zones 3–9, average-to-consistent moisture, and acidic-to-neutral soil chemistry. The [Proven Winners care notes](https://provenwinnersdirect.com/products/shadowland-above-the-clouds-hosta) also recommend clearing dead leaves after frost.
## Landscape use
Use this large-leaved hosta as a focal point, in mass plantings, or in a substantial container. Its blue foliage contrasts with green shade plants and holds visual interest through the growing season.
## Maintenance
Keep soil evenly moist during dry weather and remove dead foliage after frost. Leave ample room for mature plants, and divide established clumps when they outgrow their space.
