Create design onlineAbout Shadowland® 'Etched Glass' Hosta
Shadowland® Etched Glass is a large hosta with luminous green leaves edged in bright yellow and a puckered mature texture. Its fragrant, near-white flowers rise above the foliage in summer, complementing the plant’s patterned leaves.
## Garden Character
Etched Glass is a sport of Stained Glass, selected for broader golden margins and thick foliage. The clump grows about 18 inches tall and spreads around 36 inches, making it useful in a shaded border or a large container. Walters Gardens lists the cultivar for USDA zones 3–9.
## Growing Conditions
Site it in part shade to full shade, with fertile soil that retains moisture while draining freely. Average, consistent watering supports the broad leaves; water during dry weather and while new plantings establish. Acidic to neutral soil is suitable. Shade helps preserve the variegation and leaf quality.
## Maintenance
Remove flower stalks after bloom if you want to keep attention on the foliage. Allow leaves to yellow and die back naturally, then clear them in late fall or early winter. Replenish mulch and water during extended dry spells. [Walters Gardens](https://www.waltersgardens.com/variety.php?ID=HSETG) describes the cultivar’s foliage, fragrance, bloom, and culture.
