About Shadowland® 'Waterslide' Hosta

Hosta ‘Waterslide’ is a SHADOWLAND® selection with heavily rippled, wavy blue leaves and substantial texture. Walters lists the foliage clump at about 14 inches tall by 32 inches wide, with lavender flowers in late summer ([cultivar profile](https://www.waltersgardens.com/variety.php?ID=HSWAS)). ## Form and setting The low, rounded mound brings a cool blue accent to a shaded bed, and its leaves hold their color well into summer. The profile lists part shade to full shade and zones 3–9. Give it enough room for the 32-inch spread, either as a specimen or in a group with contrasting hosta foliage. Late-summer flower scapes rise above the leaves without obscuring their rippled form. ## Soil and water Use fertile, organic soil that remains moist but drains freely. Walters recommends consistent moisture and adequate drainage for strong growth and good color. Light shade is the preferred setting; mature plants may tolerate some dry periods, but regular water supports better foliage. Avoid hot afternoon exposure, particularly when soil is dry. ## Maintenance Mulch to moderate soil moisture and check new leaves for slug damage. Hosta foliage naturally goes dormant; remove dead leaves in early winter to keep the bed clean and limit shelter for slugs and other leaf-feeding insects. Walters’ hosta care guidance also recommends removing foliage after dormancy.
