About Silver Lining™ White Sagebrush

Silver Lining is a hardy Artemisia hybrid selected for broad, deeply divided silver foliage and a low, wide mound. The breeder lists mature dimensions of 12–16 inches tall by 32–36 inches wide; the foliage is showy from spring through fall, while its small yellow flowers appear in early fall. Its breadth makes it useful along a sunny bed edge, as a groundcover accent, or spilling from a mixed container. ## Garden Use Give this perennial full sun and well-drained soil. The breeder lists USDA zones 4a–9b and average to poor soil tolerance. The parent species can spread by rhizomes, but the patent description distinguishes this hybrid as vigorous without invasive rhizomes; leave room for its stated spread and monitor the plant in its local conditions. Its silver leaves contrast well with green foliage and provide texture when neighboring flowers are between flushes. ## Sources See the [Proven Winners plant profile](https://www.provenwinners.com/plants/artemisia/silver-lining-white-sagebrush-artemisia-hybrid) for size, color, season, and garden use, and the [PP36888 cultivar record](https://www.hort.net/pedia/patent/grant/36888/) for its botanical identity and trial description. The listed spread sits near three feet; allow for variation with climate and growing conditions. ## Maintenance Plant in free-draining soil and water to establish. Trim spent flowering stems or remove damaged growth as needed; avoid routine shearing that removes the textured mound. Check spread over time, especially where the plant meets smaller neighbors.
