Helix is a red cherry tomato with a sweet-tart flavor, early-ripening fruit, and high yields. Ball Seed lists it as a climbing, upright plant and gives a 5–7 foot height and 3–4 foot spread; its page also reports spring through late-summer flowering. ## Fruit and growth
Helix is described for fresh eating and in-ground production. The indeterminate vine continues growing as flowers and fruit develop, and a supporting cage or trellis helps keep stems upright. Yellow blossoms and green foliage are typical of the species.
## Growing conditions
Plant in full sun in moist, well-drained loamy soil. Tomatoes prefer slightly acidic soil and steady moisture; avoid excess nitrogen that can favor leafy growth over fruit. Set transplants outdoors after frost danger has passed.
## Maintenance
Provide support while the plant is young, water consistently at the soil line, and use balanced feeding as fruit develops. Pick ripe cherry tomatoes regularly. Rotate planting locations away from other nightshade-family crops when possible.
