Create design onlineAbout Topsy Tom Tomato
Topsy Tom is a semi-determinate cherry tomato with compact, mounded growth and flexible stems that carry abundant fruit. PanAmerican Seed describes medium, round red tomatoes and a 50–55-day period to maturity from transplanting ([PanAmerican Seed](https://www.panamseed.com/Products/062000001027314/tomato-topsy-tom/)).
## Fruit and harvest
The sweet, split-resistant tomatoes measure about 1 inch long by 1.25 inches wide. The plant continues producing branches with many trusses, and the selection is intended for both traditional and upside-down planters. Its published height range is 12–18 inches and its spread is 36–60 inches; the existing metric points fall within those ranges.
## Site and season
Grow in sun. PanAmerican lists summer and late-summer bloom seasons and describes the plant habit as mounded, spreading and trailing. It also reports intermediate resistance to early blight, Fusarium race 1, leaf mold and Septoria leaf spot. The species belongs to Solanum in the nightshade family Solanaceae ([Kew Science](https://powo.science.kew.org/taxon/urn:lsid:ipni.org:names:316947-2/general-information)).
## Maintenance
Use a hanging basket or planter that accommodates the spreading stems, or guide the growth in a traditional container. Check the many trusses as fruit develops and harvest ripe tomatoes regularly.
