About Chocolate Mint Coleus, Premium Sun

Chocolate Mint is an upright Premium Sun coleus with dark chocolate-colored leaves finely edged in mint green. Ball lists a mounded, upright habit, 14–20 inch height, 12–14 inch spread, and use in mixed containers or landscape features. ## Foliage and Placement Grow it as a foliage accent in a large container or garden bed. Ball lists partial sun and sun exposure and describes the foliage as heat tolerant and shade tolerant; its Premium Sun collection handles full sun best in humid conditions, while foliage can scorch in dry, low-humidity sun. The [Ball Seed plant page](https://info.ballseed.com/PlantInfo/?phid=018006810001159) gives the exact leaf pattern and mature size. ## Growing Conditions Keep the soil moist, rich, and loose, and provide regular water. General coleus guidance from [North Carolina Extension](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/coleus-scutellarioides/) notes that plants may wilt in full sun and can become leggy in full shade. The species also grows well as a tender annual outdoors or as a bright-light houseplant. ## Maintenance Pinch stem tips as needed to encourage branching. Remove flower spikes if maintaining a dense foliage display; [UF/IFAS](https://ask.ifas.ufl.edu/publication/fp136) explains that the flowers are inconspicuous and spike removal encourages a fuller plant.
