Create design onlineAbout Kong Jr.™ Green Halo Coleus, Premium Shade
Kong Jr. Green Halo coleus is a mounded, upright foliage plant selected for shade-oriented garden beds and containers. Its patterned leaves have a buttery-yellow center surrounded by a lime-green halo, bringing bright contrast to a planting without relying on flowers. [Ball lists this selection at 18–24 inches tall and 20–35 inches wide, with shade to partial-sun exposure](https://info.ballseed.com/PlantInfo/?phid=018006528022970); a seed retailer describes its yellow center and lime-green edge (https://palettblad.com/en/kong-jr/kong-jr-green-halo).
### Garden use
The large heart-shaped leaves make a bold seasonal accent in mixed containers, patio planters, or a shade bed. Its foliage color remains the main display; coleus is grown primarily for leaves rather than blooms.
### Growing conditions
Choose shade or partial sun and use moist, well-drained soil with organic matter. Water garden beds when the upper soil begins to dry; containers dry faster and need more frequent checks. Coleus is cold-sensitive, so plant outdoors after temperatures have settled and protect it from frost. [University of Minnesota Extension covers coleus site, soil, and watering needs](https://extension.umn.edu/garden-and-home/yard-and-garden/gardening-in-minnesota/coleus).
## Maintenance
Pinch growing tips to encourage branching and remove flower stalks as they form to keep attention on the foliage. Ball rates the Kong Jr. series low-maintenance and well-branched.
