About Grefsheim Spirea

Grefsheim spirea is a deciduous shrub with slender, arching branches that carry abundant fragrant white flowers before the leaves emerge. North Carolina State Extension lists the cultivar at 5 to 6 feet tall and wide and in USDA Zones 4–7; the RHS gives a comparable mature range of 1 to 1.5 meters. It tolerates light shade and a range of soil textures, but flowers best in full sun and needs soil that drains well. Grefsheim can spread by suckers, so remove unwanted shoots when they appear. Avoid waterlogged soil and allow room for the arching branches.
