Little Spark® spirea (*Spiraea japonica* 'Minspil04') is a compact, rounded shrub with orange new growth that settles into yellow summer foliage. Pink flowers rise just above the leaves in summer, making this named selection useful where a small shrub can add both foliage color and seasonal bloom.
### Size and siting
The [First Editions plant profile](https://firsteditionsplants.com/product/little-spark-spirea/) lists a mature height of 18 to 24 inches and a spread of 18 to 30 inches. It is hardy in USDA zones 3 through 8 and grows in full sun to part shade. Use it along a garden border or in a decorative container, allowing enough room for its spreading outline.
### Foliage and flowers
New leaves emerge orange and remain yellow through summer, even in full sun. Pink flower clusters bloom above the foliage in summer. A light shear after the first flowers finish can encourage a later flush; the shrub's seasonal color also shifts to pink tones in fall.
## Maintenance
Water regularly while the plant establishes, then adjust irrigation to soil and weather. The grower rates watering needs as medium. In early spring, remove damaged stems and shape lightly if needed. Shear spent flowers promptly when encouraging late-summer rebloom, and avoid cutting into the plant more heavily than needed to maintain its compact form.
