Create design onlineAbout Spring Grove® Western Arborvitae
Spring Grove® is a large, fast-growing western redcedar selected for its dense evergreen form and glossy green foliage. It develops from an open young plant into a tightly conical tree, and published garden references describe it for screening, hedging, and use as a specimen.
## Landscape Use
Use Spring Grove® where a substantial evergreen screen or specimen is wanted. Morton Arboretum describes a loose, narrow habit, dark-green foliage with yellow tips, and a 25-foot-by-8-foot garden size; the grower sheet gives a 25–30-foot mature height and notes that it is larger and looser than Emerald Green. [Morton Arboretum](https://mortonarb.org/plant-and-protect/trees-and-plants/giant-arborvitae/) · [Spring Meadow grower sheet](https://springmeadownursery.com/files/resource_files/Thuja%20plicata%20Spring%20Grove%20Professional%20Grower%20Sheet.pdf)
## Growing Conditions
The grower sheet lists USDA zone 5, part shade to sun, and average irrigation. Dawes Arboretum also lists zone 5 and notes that the glossy foliage keeps its green color through winter. [Dawes Arboretum](https://dawesarb.arboretumexplorer.org/taxon-28647.aspx)
## Maintenance
Water during establishment and after trimming. If pruning is needed, avoid cutting into thick stems, which recover slowly; the grower sheet recommends light trimming of new growth for nursery production.
