Starburst clerodendrum is a tropical shrub or small tree grown for striking clusters of pink tubular flowers tipped with white stars. Its green leaves have glossy purple undersides, and the flowers provide nectar for hummingbirds and long-tongued butterflies. [UF/IFAS](https://gardeningsolutions.ifas.ufl.edu/plants/trees-and-shrubs/shrubs/starburst-clerodendrum/) reports a typical height near 15 feet and hardiness in zones 9b–11.
## Flowers and Foliage
The showy clusters are most prominent in midwinter and early spring. Full sun produces the strongest display and a more compact canopy; the plant can grow in partial shade, though flowering may be shorter and lighter. It prefers moist, well-drained soil. Once established, it tolerates drought, but regular moisture supports growth and bloom.
## Garden Use
Use it as a warm-climate specimen shrub or small tree where its mature canopy has room. It can also form a screen. Existing height and width entries are retained as approximate catalog dimensions; UF/IFAS describes a typical height rather than a strict upper limit.
## Maintenance
Prune lightly to shape, or make heavier cuts after flowering. Watch for root suckers, which can emerge away from the main plant; pull or mow them while small, or retain selected shoots for a screen. Avoid letting unwanted suckers establish.
