Stay Classy® is a compact purple-leaf sand cherry bred by Dr. Mark Brand at the University of Connecticut. It has airy, upward-growing branches, purple foliage, and white spring flowers; the mature plant is roughly half the size of a typical purple-leaf sand cherry. The [Proven Winners plant profile](https://www.provenwinnerscolorchoice.com/plant/stay-classy-purple-leaf-sand-cherry/) gives its size, zones, and care.
## Growing
Plant in full or part sun in well-drained soil. The profile lists USDA zones 2–8, a height of 3–4 feet, and a spread of about 4 feet. Water needs are average, but established plants tolerate drought. It flowers on old wood, so wait until after spring bloom to prune if flowers matter.
## Landscape use
The compact habit fits a border, low hedge, container, or mass planting. Purple foliage provides color from spring through fall, with white flowers adding a spring accent.
## Maintenance
This selection naturally maintains a compact form and usually needs little pruning. Water through establishment and during prolonged dry weather; remove damaged branches after flowering. Avoid cutting it back before spring bloom if you want to keep that season’s flowers.
