Create design onlineAbout Sugartina Crystalina Summersweet
Sugartina® Crystalina is a compact deciduous summersweet selected for fragrant white flower spikes and glossy dark green leaves that turn yellow in fall. Spring Meadow Nursery identifies the cultivar as ‘Crystalina’ (U.S. Plant Patent PP21561) and lists a mature height and spread of 2.5–3 feet, USDA zones 4–9. The existing 0.9 m dimensions are approximately 35 inches; the width label is normalized to the source range ([breeder profile](https://springmeadownursery.com/plantfinder/sugartina-crystalina-15660)).
## Flowers and Foliage
The white, fragrant flowers appear in mid-summer and attract butterflies. Yellow autumn foliage extends the season after bloom. Full sun to part shade is suitable; provide moist soil, preferably acidic, though established plants tolerate some dryness. The shrub can also handle wet sites.
## Garden Use
Its compact, rounded form suits a foundation planting, border, or small group. The breeder gives 2.5–3 feet as the current garden size, while the patent document records a larger mature specimen under its described trial conditions; local size can vary with age and environment. The botanical identity and existing hardiness zones are retained.
## Maintenance
The natural shape needs little pruning. If shaping is desired, prune in early spring before active growth. Water during establishment and extended dry weather; mulch to help keep the root zone cool and evenly moist.
