About Summerific® Cranberry Crush™ Rose Mallow

Summerific® Cranberry Crush™ forms a short, rounded clump of glossy, deep-green leaves with purple overtones. Slightly cupped scarlet-red flowers, about 7–8 inches across, open along the stems in a long midsummer-to-early-fall display. ## Size and season The [Summerific® collection guide](https://www.waltersgardens.com/cms/uploads/cms_ArticlePDF_203_5.pdf) lists a mature height of 3–4 ft and hardiness in USDA Zones 4–9; the breeder’s [plant profiles](https://www.waltersgardens.com/photo_essay.php?ID=500) describe a 4–5 ft spread. The collection guide also notes scarlet flowers and bloom from midsummer to early fall; the [Cranberry Crush patent](https://patents.google.com/patent/USPP21984P2/en) describes flowering into October. The [Canadian variety record](https://active.inspection.gc.ca/english/plaveg/pbrpov/cropreport/hib/app00007820e.shtml) documents the cultivar’s dark purple-red petals. ## Growing conditions Give this rose mallow abundant sun and steady moisture in fertile, well-drained soil. Leave enough room for the wider mature spread; hardy hibiscus can emerge late in spring. ## Maintenance Water during dry spells and mulch the root zone before winter. In spring, remove last year’s stems as new growth begins.
