Sweet Romance® Lavender

Sweet Romance® is an English lavender with a compact mound of aromatic gray-green foliage and violet-purple flower wands. Proven Winners lists it at 12–18 inches tall and wide, for full sun, and flowering from spring through fall. ## Selection and Garden Use The registered selection is Lavandula angustifolia ‘Kerlavangem’; the breeder page records U.S. plant patent 23,001 and Canadian protection number 4,906. The plant branches into a rounded mound, with flower clusters along the stems as well as at their tips. Use it along a sunny path, at the front of a border, or in a container where its foliage and scent are close at hand. The breeder also lists it for cutting and drying. ## Growing Conditions Give lavender strong sun and sharp drainage. The breeder describes sandy or loamy soil, prefers neutral or alkaline conditions, and lists average water needs. It is rated for USDA zones 5–9; winter performance still depends on drainage and local exposure. Leave enough room for its mature spread. ## Maintenance Water while new roots establish, then adjust irrigation to weather and soil rather than keeping the crown wet. Remove spent flower stems after bloom and trim lightly in late summer to preserve the mound. Avoid cutting into old woody stems, and avoid a hard autumn cut in wet or cold climates.
