Sweet Summer Love™ is a fragrant clematis selected by Szczepan Marczynski. The exact cultivar is ‘Sweet Summer Love’ (USPP24044); [Proven Winners ColorChoice](https://www.provenwinnerscolorchoice.com/product/sweet-summer-love-clematis/) lists pink and purple flowers, zones 4–9, and a mature size around 10 feet high by 6–10 feet wide. [Spring Meadow Nursery’s grower sheet](https://springmeadownursery.com/files/resource_files/Clematis%20Sweet%20Summer%20Love%20Professional%20Grower%20Sheet.pdf) also identifies the patented cultivar and describes fragrant violet-purple flowers.
## Flowers and habit
The single flowers open in changing red-purple to purple tones and carry a noticeable fragrance. This deciduous vine flowers on new growth, with a long summer display that can extend into early fall. Train it on a trellis or fence where its color and scent can be enjoyed.
## Site and soil
Grow in full sun or part sun in average, moist, well-drained soil. Keep the root area cool and evenly watered during establishment. Published mature-size figures vary slightly, so the existing dimensions and broad labels are retained rather than narrowed to an unsupported point.
## Maintenance
In spring, cut the stems back to two buds above ground, following the nursery grower sheet. Give the vine a strong support and remove damaged stems as needed.
