About Corocito Palm

Corocito Palm is an evergreen South American palm with upright leaves and short stems that are often mostly below ground. It occurs in seasonally dry Bolivian forests and is also called Corocito or Saro; the [species profile](https://tropical.theferns.info/viewtropical.php?id=Syagrus+cardenasii) describes plants reaching 5 m, usually smaller, and the [Kew taxonomic record](https://powo.science.kew.org/taxon/urn:lsid:ipni.org:names:246919-2) accepts this species. ### Garden Use Use this palm where its upright crown can be appreciated, such as a warm courtyard or tropical collection. Its leaves extend well beyond the short visible stem, so allow room for the crown. ### Growing Conditions Provide an open sunny position with sandy soil that drains freely. Protect it from cold beyond the source's documented light-frost tolerance. ## Maintenance Keep debris out of the crown and remove only fully dead leaves with clean tools. Choose a deep container if grown in a pot and avoid frequent repotting.
