About Licuri Palm

Licuri palm (also called Ouricury or Ouricuri palm) is a slow-growing, single-stemmed palm native to northeastern Brazil. Its crown of long, slightly arching compound leaves and persistent old leaf bases gives it a strong tropical silhouette; the Missouri Botanical Garden lists it for fruit and nut use and describes seasonal yellow flowers. Published garden dimensions are 20–30 feet tall and 10–15 feet wide, and its listed hardiness range is Zones 9–12. ### Growing conditions Grow in full sun. It performs best in evenly moist, sandy, well-drained soil, while tolerating fertile dry, rocky, calcareous, or clay soils. The source notes intolerance of salty spray. ### Landscape use Its slow growth and palm form suit a warm-climate specimen planting where there is room for the mature crown. ### Sources [Missouri Botanical Garden PlantFinder](https://plantfinder.mobot.org/PlantFinderDetails.aspx?bt=12&taxonid=291510); [Kew POWO](https://powo.science.kew.org/taxon/urn:lsid:ipni.org:names:246926-2). ## Maintenance Allow space for the mature spread and keep the root area evenly moist during establishment without leaving the soil waterlogged. Avoid exposed salt spray. Remove only dead or damaged leaves, and monitor overall vigor in landscape conditions.
