Hancock coralberry is a low, spreading selection of Chenault coralberry with arching stems, small blue-green leaves and a naturally broad footprint. The Missouri Botanical Garden lists ‘Hancock’ at about 1½–2 feet tall and 6–8 feet wide, while noting it can spread farther as it matures; its small pink flowers are followed by coral-pink berries that remain showy into fall and winter. [Colorado State University Extension](https://extension.colostate.edu/resource/xeriscaping-trees-and-shrubs/) also describes its low, spreading growth and persistent fruit.
## Landscape Use
Let the shrub spread as a groundcover on slopes, banks or beneath taller plants. Its suckering growth can help cover open ground, but allow ample lateral room and avoid placing it where runners would quickly overtake small neighboring plants.
## Growing Conditions
Grow in full sun or part shade in average, medium-moisture, well-drained soil. It adapts to a range of soils. Pink flowers appear in summer, followed by berries that offer late-season interest and can attract birds.
## Maintenance
Prune in late winter or early spring when needed to control the spreading stems. Because the plant suckers, remove unwanted shoots at the edge of a planting and renew older growth periodically.
