About Great Wall™ Peking Lilac Tree

Great Wall™ is the WFH2 selection of Peking lilac, a small ornamental tree with a narrow upright-oval form, creamy-white fragrant flowers, and green leaves that turn yellow in fall. The Morton Arboretum lists a mature size near 20 feet tall and 12 feet wide; existing approximate dimensions allow for site and age variation. ## Form and season The upright crown suits a specimen planting or a narrow space with adequate overhead clearance. White flower clusters arrive in early summer, and yellow fall color extends its seasonal interest. The tree is deciduous and can tolerate urban settings once established. ## Siting Provide full sun or partial shade and moist, well-drained soil. Peking lilacs tolerate a range of soil reactions, including alkaline soils, and moderate drought after establishment; avoid standing water and irrigate new plantings as they establish. ## Maintenance Prune after flowering when shaping is needed, rather than cutting during summer or fall when next season's buds are forming. Water through establishment, then during extended dry spells, and maintain an open, well-drained root zone.
